Illegal hunting, Italy

A Hawfinch (Coccothraustes coccothraustes) at a bird trapping site in the Italian Alps. Caged birds are used to lure and catch other birds such as larks, thrushes and finches. In December 2014, following action by the European Court in Brussels for breach of the Birds Directive, the Italian government announced it would order the closure of the last 92 trapping sites (‘roccoli’)
